A Seed is Sleepy, by Dianna Hutts Aston.

Illus. by Sylvia Long.

Sleepy, secretive, fruitful, naked, and adventurous are among the adjectives applied to a variety of seeds in cursive text while delicate watercolor illustrations depict a gorgeous selection of small and large seeds, their life cycles, and the plants they grow into.

This book is just as attractive as last year's An Egg is Quiet by the same author-illustrator team. The watercolor drawings alone make this a book worthy of consideration. The many aspects of seeds are simply and appealingly presented.

This book is a gem. Our science teacher has used it with several different grade levels and loves its simplicity and lovely illustrations.
