There Is a Bird on Your Head! by Mo Willems

This is one of a series of beginning readers about Elephant and Piggie. Elephant has a bird on his head, then two, then a nest with three chicks. Piggie suggests an easy solution for this problem. Simple illustrations that use balloons to show the dialogue accompany an equally simple text. Winner of the Geisel Award.

This series is so simple yet so funny; I'm beginning to think that Mo Willems is truly a comic genius! (maybe just for 3-6 year old set, though!)
The necessary repetition isn't annoying or even obvious because you really believe it's how these silly characters talk to each other.
This early reader builds reading as well as math and number concepts as we count the birds and nests on Elephant's head. A good laugh at any age.

A terrific read aloud / laugh aloud. Kids will want to hear this over and over. I agree with Betsy - Willems is a comic genius.
