The illustrations are warm yet realistic. The last two pages provide additional facts about this endangered species.

Second. This title is simple and short enough to use as a read aloud for k-2. The full page illustrations pair well with the questions and answers on the opposite pages. One thing that bothered me was that the bat's wings looked green on many of the pages.
Another way the book could be used is as a model for older kids to use in making their own book instead of doing an animal report.

I can see this book being popular with teachers of the K1 set as a nice introduction to bats. The repetitive nature will engage their audience. I like the the watercolor , ink and colored pencil illustrations.
One teeny-tiny quibble... actually maybe not... on one page the bat looks about the same size as the mouse pictured on that page. Are mice sometimes as small as one inch long? Maybe I should go research...
